Littlewick Medical Centre has its own Patient Participation Group (PPG) these groups are a collaboration between patients and their practices to strengthen the patient-practice relationship.
Currently we have a group of twelve patients who meet regularly with a view to improving communication, discuss concerns and look at what areas of service can be improved. Questions such as What is working? or What isn’t working? are discussed.
The groups explore ways in which patients can help themselves by encouraging a healthy lifestyle, arranging activities such as walks and eating healthier.
A member of the Littlewick management team and a Doctor is present to provide a link and to liaise directly with the Littlewick medical team. The group seeks to be pro-active in listening to patients ideas and working positively with the medical team.
The main aim of the PPG is to help the Practice monitor issues which are raised by patients. One issue raised recently is the inability of patients to pre-book GPs they want to be seen by due to that particular GP being overbooked or busy. The PPG discussed the consequences of the situation and were told that there is a high proportion of patients that have pre-booked who do not attend their appointments so making those who really need that GP unable to be seen by him/her. Realising this the PPG issued a statement encouraging all patients to avoid missing their appointments.
Another success of the PPG meetings is that the group set up a walking for health scheme to go from the surgery to walk the surrounding area. Currently as a result of the meetings there are two organised walks running in Ilkeston which are very popular. Each walk is no longer than an hour and the route is planned and risk assessed with help from the walking for health team. The leaders are given full training and there is more information on the walking for health scheme in the Practice for those who are interested. If you are interested then please pick up a leaflet.
The Littlewick and The Dales Patient Participation Group has now published its 2018 report. The full report can be read by following the link below.
