| click here to see and give your reaction | Some people slip through the net. I have never missed an appointmant. My sister has - because she was too ill to attend. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I have missed a couple of appointments. 1 due to being stuck in traffic due to an accident on the m1, which I telephoned in, but the receptionist failed to make notes on my file. 2. due to being held at knife point at work, was unable to contact the surgery. Again I telephoned (after the situation) and again the receptionist failed to make notes on my file. This is not good enough. The administration at Littlewick medical centre is appauling, and telephone manners are discusting. I have complained several times, but the administration manager just sends you a letter, but things never get resolved. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | There should be no excuse really for missing appointments but I do think the current system of phoning that morning for an appointment is not ideal for people who have full time jobs. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I can only speak from my experience. I will be perfectly honest, I have missed appointments in the past. I have even received a warning letter. I have found your appointment system to be appalling. I now turn up early...log in...and wait for upto 3/4 - 1 hour!!! A number of times I have been told that The Doctor is running late . Another concern is that I do not get to know any doctor properly, therefore I do not feel that they know me...no loyalty there either...yet you ask for my loyalty and respect. It may be that you need to set up a patient council and find out what is really behind missed appointments....it might be your service that is lacking and therefore the customer response will be unsympathetic to your plight. | click here to see and give your reaction | carry on the good work, eddy. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | maybe there would be an improvement if letters/emails were sent to the patient about aweek before the date , reminding them of the patients forthcoming appointment asking if they still needed the appointment and if not to contact the surgery. This would then allow other patients to use the slot and to save the doctors time/costs in respect of non attendance. I do feel it should be the very last resort to remove a patient from the list as their medical situation may well be the cause of the non attendance and makes it even more important they have medical care. Everyone needs to have a family doctor. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | How many times in how long? Twice in one month? Five times in 20 years? The question is meaningless without a time frame! |
| click here to see and give your reaction | the amount of time you have to wait before seeing a Dr you could be dead or better so need to the DR. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Online facility is useful Dales needs more sessions or facility for patients to be seen at Ilkeston instead of waiting days on end to be seen |
| click here to see and give your reaction | If a patient has a busy/stressful lifestyle, their memory skills may be impaired - this should be taken into account. The same for the elderly/infirm. Our dentist s receptionist usually calls the day before the appointment to check that we ll still be attending. Perhaps this might me an option to consider after the first couple of DNAs I m very reluctant to condone removing a patient from the list. I have missed appointments on 2 occasions and felt very bad about it, so I try hard not to do so again. I would have been devastated at being removed. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | everybody should try harder to ca ncel and stop wasting doctors time |
| click here to see and give your reaction | It would be useful to be able to book non-emergency appointments on line as well as being able to cancel them. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | why will you not tell me if gel pen ink poisonus |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I had to cancel an appointment last week at short notice, but couldn t get through the four times I tried. therefore it reflects bad on me, but due to an accident in my car I couldn t spend all my time trying. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | just to let you know i was searching your website to find out what tie you open but i can not see ties anywere |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Knowing how precious appointments are - I always try not to forget |
| click here to see and give your reaction | On line cancelling would be beneficial. Also sometines can be left waiting room for appointments for up to an hour so that could compensate for any gaps in times left by patients not attending appointments. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I ve recently had to cancel an appoitment due to work commitments. It would help if I could get an appointment in a reasonable time scale, at a time that suits me. I had to wait 7 days for an appointment and took the first available one. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | i have said this before i think it would be better if was made clear to patients that if you missed an appointment 3 times in any one year you will be struck off the register this will stop waisting doctors time any one can miss an appointment through no fault of there own but not three in one year.also it makes it fair to others i would send a reminder out to those after 2 missed appointments. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Action should be based on circumstances, 3 missed appointments in 30 years is not as bad as 2 in one year and the tally perhaps ought to be reset after a pre determined period. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Why not charge if they dont attend, if they persist, remove from the Drs list. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | remind patients of thier appointment incase they have a bad memory and forget things alot |
| click here to see and give your reaction | If a patient fails to attend they should for 12 months not be given an apppointment. If they need to see a Doctor they should attend on a non appointment basis and have to wait to see a Doctor after all appointments have been seen, AM/PM, put them out, I bet they won t miss another. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | its very annoying when you want an appointment, but unable to get one because people can t be bothered to cancel it! |
| click here to see and give your reaction | i imagine it is a combination of all of the above reasons why appointments are not cancelled. maybe an audit of why should be performed in order to find out. this should involve asking the patients what would have made them cancel their appointment. asking them how many dna s should result in being removed from the list would make them think twice before doing so again. let people be the master of their own fate and they will hopefully change their behaviour |
| click here to see and give your reaction | depending on the frequency, if they are within a certain time scale example twice in 12 mths or twice in 6mths. It would be harsh if it was twice in 3 years, because we all lead busy lives or get emergencies and things can slip everybody s mind!! |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Really don t know why people do not cancel but it is difficult to find a gap on the telephone line. I think ,also, that people improve before the appointment and just don t bother to inform you. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I am not sure what the answer is but having talked to friends who work at other practices the worst offenders do not turn up for appointments made on the same day! Perhaps the solution to people who are persistant non attenders is to make them come and sit down at surgery for the first available appointment to see a doctor. This way they are being made to pay a penalty for the fact that they have not informed reception or cancelled their appointment and they are inconveniencing themselves and no-body else. After a period of time they could be allowed to pre book appointments again in the hope they turn up for them if not they would return to sit and wait. This procedure would benefit everyone as it would mean genuine people would be able to |
| click here to see and give your reaction | i used to work in an opticians and we had exactly the same problem. we got round it by ringing people the day before the appointment, or sending them a reminder in the post. i realise this is probably unrealistic for you, but you could always just ring the ones most likely to not turn up. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | The number of failures should be qualified with a time. 5 times in 20 years is not as bad as 3 times in a month. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | ..if a normally punctual patient began missing appointments. Perhaps the worst DNA-ers should be medically evaluated to see if there are underlying health issues. Same day appointments, could be used for terminally forgetful people; lesser cases could be contacted an hour before the appointment and all the others could be legislated against based on their health history / financial status / reason for DNA. Good luck with establishing a decent resolution. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | ought to be taken. Referal to patient s notes may indicate health factors that carry memory loss problems. I am new to the surgery and have not missed an appointment. However, I do have a problem ( Hep C ) that sometimes causes a condition known as brain fogging and I can be forgetful and sometimes practically incapable of linear thought. Hopefully, you can tell it isn t a problem just now. Fortunately, I have a partner who helps to compensates on my memory situation by remembering appointments for me. There are no doubt OAPs ( and others ) without partners to jog their memory. Of course, the data from the initially administrative intensive task of patient note referencing could also be used to alert Doctors to new health concerns if a norm |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Now for the more serious P.O.V. Having read everyone s comments on this I think a charge for DNA seems to be what many feel is a required incentive to appointment breakers. Well, a bigger building is required so any funds generated could be put to good use. How would a charge amount be determined...is it to be means tested? ( whoever suggested 50 for missing an appointment is too highly paid! ) Surely incremental amounts would be a far better policy two warnings then- begin at 5 and increase by 5 for every DNA thereafter. I agree with the person who worries that people with social / mental health issues may be discriminated against and, as another person has suggested, fairly determine the cause of the DNA before deciding if any action o |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I m new to the surgery but was amazed to see the fuss being made about DNA. The Heanor based surgery I was under did not seem to be having large scale problems with this issue I can only assume it is a problem of epidemic proportions in this area. Maybe alsheimer s disease is epidemic also! |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I currently missed an appointment as i forgot i had made it. I feel really bad as i know that such forgotfulness means other patients are unable to make quicker appointments. I feel that you have to give patients alittle way but after so many missed appointments it really is not fair on the other patients. Faith Tomlinson |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I understand DNA is annoying to staff and patients (I am a counsellor). Some people with health related problems would have valid reasons for DNA. These people would usually be able to contact the surgery after the missed appointment. If no contact is made - and there is no good reason -then action could be taken (Perhaps a charge). I would not like to see a rigid policy one size fits all . What would happen to very disorganised people (for social, emotional or mental health reasons) if they were removed from a doctor s list? Eventually they would have no access to a doctor. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I am not sure that I understand the new appointment system. I have often been unable to get through to the surgery in the mornings as everyone is told to phone at 8.30am. By the time that you can get through, all the appointments have been taken, and you are told to phone the next day. I understand that this is your attempt to meet government targets, but this does not help your patients. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I think you should charge patients who do not turn up. The money generated could be used for the benefit of all patients. This way people would remember to cancel any unwanted appointments and this would benefit everyone too. It must be frustrating for doctors and nurses when patients do not turn up. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | It has been interesting to read peoples comments and we hope to be examining the ideas closely at the next practice away day keep them coming Dr Halls |
| click here to see and give your reaction | people with mental health problems may be not well enough to keep appointments on that day |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I think it would be a good idea if after the first occassion, a letter was sent out stressing the importance of giving notice if they are unable to attend an appointment. On the second occassion they should be charged, perhaps 50 for a missed appointment or 10 or a further letter to OAPs. Then on the third occassion either remove them from the doctors list, or perhaps a better idea would be to add a note to their record stating they can only make "same-day" appointments |
| click here to see and give your reaction | if a patient does not cancell 5 times in a rolling year thay shuold be removed from list problems in the past being unable to contact reception the on line cancellation should be a great help a email reminder could allso be of help as sometimes the appontment is booked weeks in advance |
| click here to see and give your reaction | i think you should charge for missed appointments.Any money made in charges can be used to help other patients. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Perhaps, as with other services there should be a fee if an appointment is missed and not cancelled. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I think there are a combination of reasons. 1. Some people forget (try sending an sms message to remind patients of appoinments (this should be automated at scheduled at the time os booking (similar to getting your car serviced) 2. some people are too lazy, Provide a quick method of cancellation, again maybe through SMS messages use technology the way the public do these people could help you www.can-it.co.uk theses solution can be very easily implemented |
| click here to see and give your reaction | the block which says "your feedback" is covering up the text in blue so hard to read. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I THINK THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY OF TRYING TO CONTROL THIS WOULD BE TO CHARGE FOR THE APPOINTMENT - SAY A FEE OF 20/25 WOULD MAKE PEOPLE REMEMBER MORE OFTEN |
| click here to see and give your reaction | remind people of there appointment be resonable |
| click here to see and give your reaction | most people will cancel if thay can not make appointment.but sometimes things do not work out that way.ie can not get through to the surgery or just forget.and those who dont give a dam.to make it fair to doctors and to patents alike.why dont. you make the system easy for all and fair.EG you are allowed 2 missed appointments per year.if the missed appointment is printed on the prescription each time you miss it you have no excuss the third time you are taken of the sugery register.and your place given to someone who will attend.given exception to special cases.we all at sometime have missed the odd appointment.but this way i am sure whould see a great improvement.after all it would be your fault not the doctors. thank you mr g j booth |
| click here to see and give your reaction | There is a lot of ways to contact you. There is no excuse for not letting you know. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Charge them for missed appointments. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | It only takes a minute to pick up the phone and cancel. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | There is no excuse for not cancelling an appointment you can no longer make. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I would personally never book an appointment and not turn up (unless due to something drastic like car accident or beyond my control) I must admit it can be hard to get through to the appointments line at times |
| click here to see and give your reaction | remind patient of thier appointment |
| click here to see and give your reaction | remind patients of thier appointment |
| click here to see and give your reaction | length of waiting time for an appointment usually 5 days or more patients forget the time or day of the appointment. maybe use a two doctors for surgery at west hallam that would cut the length of delay for appointments as more people would be able to get an appointment when they request not have to wait for days taking pot luck by trying to get through by phone at 8.30 |
| click here to see and give your reaction | An online facility would be useful. It can be difficult to get through especially on days when the surgery is closed for the afternoon. Often the phone is not switched on until after the early appointments in a session and then, because people have been waiting to book for that session the phone remains engaged for some time. I have on occasion tried for 25 minutes to get through (especially on a Monday when patients are more likely to have recovered and not need the appointment) A dedicated appointment line with answerphone would help. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | phone tom remind the patient of an appointment |
| click here to see and give your reaction | should not be removed from list, |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I think that you should charge patients that do not turn up for their appointments or forget to cancel like dentists do.The money generated could be used to benefit all patients and it would mean that people would cancel their appointments if they were no longer needed or were unable to attend for whatever reason. |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Twice in one year |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Patients who do not turn up should be billed for wasted GP time! |
| click here to see and give your reaction | I wasnt sure what was meant by most important reason....there shouldnt be any important reason why people forget to cancel unless that are physically unable to do so ie in hospital other than that there should not be any excuse or reason. everyone forget |
| click here to see and give your reaction | Online booking would be really useful (and cancelling) |
